Trip Itinerary
Day 1 - Friday, May 14
Fly from the USA on an afternoon/evening flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
Day 2 - Saturday, May 15
Arrive in Frankfurt. Enjoy a panoramic tour of the old town of Frankfurt, then drive to
Heidelberg, the romantic medieval city on the banks of the River Neckar. Our
sightseeing will include a visit to the Castle Ruins, home of the Student Prince; we
will also see the famous Stone Bridge and the University, one of the oldest in the
world. We will have dinner at our hotel in Heidelberg.
Day 3 - Sunday, May 16
After breakfast, we will drive through the Black Forest, past Hansel & Gretel villages
in the heart of the mysterious fairytale country. We visit the roaring Rhine Falls at
Schaffhausen, a photographer’s paradise. Cross the border into Switzerland and
drive to Zurich, Switzerland’s largest city and one of the world’s most important
financial centers. We will see the Grossmunster Cathedral (Zwingli’s Church) and
the fine lakeshore district before continuing southwards to Lake Lucerne set in a
beautiful mountain and lake setting. Tonight our evening dinner is at our hotel in
Lucerne.
Day 4 - Monday, May 17
After breakfast, our morning sightseeing tour of Lucerne will include the beautiful
Lion Monument, the Kapell Bridge and the Spreuer Bridge as well as the elegant,
flower covered promenades. We will drive to the tiny principality of Liechtenstein,
where we pause to view the Vaduz Castle. Then on across the mighty Arlberg Pass
as we continue to the Oberammergau area for our dinner and overnight
accommodations. In Oberammergau our accommodations will be at Inns or Guest
Houses.
Day 5 - Tuesday, May 18
The history of the Passion Play at Oberammergau goes back to 1634, when the
village was miraculously saved from the ravages of the Black Death. Since that
date, the play has been performed every ten years on the decade. The day is set
aside for the event. This unique occasion is literally a “once-in-a-lifetime” event.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided today at our hotel. Our tickets for the
Passion Play are Category One tickets, the best seats in the house.
Day 6 - Wednesday, May 19
After breakfast, we will visit Ludwig II’s most luxurious former residence, the
Neuschwanstein Castle. Walt Disney themed Sleeping Beauty’s castle in
Disneyland after this. We will then drive through breathtaking alpine scenery as we
pass snow capped mountains and picturesque villages on our way to the “Sound of
Music” city of Salzburg. We will have dinner at our hotel in Salzburg.
Day 7 - Thursday, May 20
After breakfast, our morning sightseeing will include the Cathedral, Getreidegasse
pedestrian shopping street, Hohensalzburg Medieval Fortress and the Mirabell
Palace. A visit will also be made to the birthplace of the famous composer Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart. The balance of your day is at leisure. Tonight the evening dinner
is at our hotel.
Day 8 - Friday, May 21
After breakfast, we will travel to Innsbruck, the Rococo capital of the Austrian Tyrol.
A local guide takes us on a walking tour of the Old City, famous for its Golden Roof
Mansion of the Emperor Mazzimillian and the Palace of Empress Maria Theresa.
This evening we will have a Tyrolean show with our dinner, a great cultural
experience.
Day 9 - Saturday, May 22
After breakfast, more splendid scenery awaits us as we drive to Munich, the lively
capital of the Bavarian region of Germany. Our afternoon sightseeing will include
Marienplatz with the gothic Town Hall, Frauenkirche, Residenz Palace,
Nymphenburg and other points of interest. Our farewell dinner will be at our hotel in
Munich.
Day 10 - Sunday, May 23
After breakfast, we will transfer to Munich airport for our flight back to Philadelphia.
Once we land in Philadelphia the motorcoach will bring us back to Lancaster for our
Sunday evening arrival.
